“Her father once told her,
“You can become anything you want to be.”
She answered, “Then I’ll be an astronaut
and see the world from space.”
Now she gazes into the deep ocean,
her helmet glowing with drifting blue light.
Beside her, two astronauts—still in their space suits--
move slowly along the seafloor
as if charting a silent, hidden planet.
They were trained for the stars,
yet here they are,
discovering a world just as mysterious below.
A giant flamingo dips its head underwater,
staring at them all in utter confusion,
as if thinking, What a strange world this is...”
